Rachmaninov was of course the brilliant virtuoso we all know, but as a genious composer he has as well his place in the standard classical repertoire. Here we hear him play the adagio sostenuto from his second piano concerto. This unique recording with the Philadelphia Symphony Orchestra directed by Leopold Stokowski was made for RCA in 1929.

I would rather die right now, than live another fifty years knowing that they hold neither a) the probability of hearing anything as beautiful as this, nor b) the possibility of creating anything as beautiful.Time, birth and death mean nothing, for one brief moment... incomparable

Well fuck me you couldn't enjoy it. You should listen to this after your done partying and ready to ease your mind from this chaotic world that is soon going to perish in its own perversion.

Fellas who are fighting over whether Rachmaninoff's compositions or rap music is better than the other: quarrel no more. Neither Rachmaninov nor rap singers can possibly compare with the music of "Los Tigres del Norte". "Los Tigres del Norte" rule!

not every talent comes naturally some artists are only great because they started so young and with time practiced to become as good as they are.

Shostakovich was also in a really bad physical condition when he made those last recordings whereas Rachmaninoff was always technically able to perform his works. If anything, Shostakovich probably made those recordings for self gratitude rather than the listeners. Also, performing aesthetics have changed considerably over the years, so displeasure over a recording may be an aesthetic one.

That isn't entirely true. Rachmaninoff himself stopped performing his third concerto after hearing Horowitz perform it because Horowitz "was the sound he heard in his head while he was composing the piece." Often, an objective and unsentimental approach to a piece results in a better performance. (of course there are exceptions, but generally that is the case)

absoloutely right! There is way too much fighting over music. I am a huge hip hop fan. I listen to Dr. Dre and Lil wayne, andd yet I love this stuff. I went to see Carmina Burana the other day and i love classical music. music is music and if you dont like a ceartain type just dont listen to it
