I saw and heard this performed at the Apollo Hammersmith, London during a David Sylvian 1988 concert around 1988. I was in the second row immediately in front of where Mark Isham was standing on stage. I remember paying a fortune from a ticket agency (£35, a lot for a pair of tickets back then) to see that concert. Well worth the money though.A friend of mine had it on a cassette, but I've been searching for it on a CD.

actually most musicians have to adapt to him which is why David Torn was such a collaborator, understood what he was doing and took it from there and translated it for everyone else.

I saw Isham on tour in 1987 or '88 at The Bottom Line in NYC with David Torn, Mick Karn, Terry Bozzio, Kurt Wortman on percussion, and a keyboard player who to this day I don't recall the name of. Awesome band, awesome concert. This was a good six months or more *after* the Cloud About Mercury tour ended.

Saw him play this with David Sylvian in 1990 at the Hammersmith Odeon. Brilliant.

I first became aware of Isham when he was part of Group 87. I used his material for years as demo music selling HiFi equipment. The man is a genius.

Absolutely beautiful and moody piece. Mick Karn's avant garde bass weaves in and out of Isham's arrangement with such fluidity. I wish music like this was more prevalent these days.

Did not realise that Mick Karn also played with Mark Isham!

Thanks for the post! This tour (Castalia) was my first Mark Isham concert: Isham, David Torn, Mick Karn, Terry Bozzio, and the percussionist I always forget the name. Still one of the best concerts, in my top ten. Interesting bio on Karn (if I remember correctly): He taught himself *incorrectly* and hangs his thumb over the neck of the bass, therefore slides up/down the neck to hit the higher notes (since use of ring/pinky finger is limited). |
