Yeah I have been useing it in my own car and haven had a problem. It runs just like normal.

if you purge the system of R12 completely, do the vac(get the old oil out mainly), and convert to R134a, you may find it actually runs about the same as R12. Just gotta remember to do the oil charge! Lotta parts stores even have cans of R134a that have 3oz or so of oil in them, so you can just charge up n go!

Or you could use SP34E I have used it to replace R12 and R500 and it is just a drop in replacement.

Remember r12 systems work best with r12.
