The interviewer is soooo condescending! Polanski is used to obsequiousness but this guy is really talking down to him - pompous arse. Polanski is a fine director, but a very creepy guy.

You're right. The interviewer a complete jerk in the way he presents himself verbally. Even if i was in kindergarden and this was my teacher I would wonder why he was talking to me like I was a baby! He seems pre-occupied and very insincere. It's a shame when you're interviewing such a great and original artist.

I hate the way the interviewer speaks! It's nothing to do with his accent, he's just, annoying. Polanski is an amazing director though, thanks for putting up this interview!

Kurosawa3 said: "...the title, Chinatown, is a symbol of all that is corrupt, unfathomable, and frustrating"I agree that it's those, and I would add that, because corruption is built upon corruption, "justice" becomes impossible to impose and, in fact, it's attempted imposition only creates more injustice. Of his earlier experience Giddes said "I tried to keep someone from getting hurt, and ended up making sure that she was."

Based on what I teach in a screenwriting classthe title, Chinatown, is a symbol of all that is corrupt, unfathomable, and frustrating:"Forget it Jake, it's Chinatown." - which is the film's final words...
