This is the way alto sax should be played!!Absolutely amazing. I have Jimmy's method and I am planning to study it from A-Z.

Dorsey had the same problem Chet Baker had. Being white. Historians tend to pass over the merits for politically correct praise, for out of tune, inferior musicians.

Jimmy is my absoutly favorite Sax player. No one can really top him. I only wish more people know him. He was terrific. he makes playing sax look easy.(i know it isn't) Theres just soo much i can say about Jimmy but i don't think I'll have enough room. lol Thanks for posting this wonderful clip

Very good song. He was so amazing. Seems to me that most sax players are vergy slow. Not him!!

Well, DorseyFreak, at least WE know who Dorsey was. How about Dusk In Upper Sandusky, Dorsey Dervish, Fingerbustin', What Makes Sammy Run, and Perdido? Lots More, too

2. If you mean by music -sheet music. You can get hold of all (or most of anyway) Jimmys Compositions in 'Jimmy Dorsey Saxophone Method' available on Amazon (very good book). Hope this has been of some help.

Well, you'll never find it if you are looking for the title BeeBee. The correct name for this tune is Beebe. You need to look for the early Dorsey Brothers recordings - this was first recorded in the 1920s. The best version though is from Jimmys own band in 1935. The reason is his beautifull solo on that recording. This is quite easy to play. The really scary Dorsey can be heard on Oddles of Noodles (1932) - the song that really established him as a mighty Alto force. Very difficult at 400+bpm.

That was a very nice piece of music. Anyone who knows where I can get this music? Please let me know. Thanks for posting this classic video.

That's why I make MY OWN lists.Jimmy was very highly regarded by other Sax players like Hawkins, Johnny Hodges and Lester Young. I love what he could do. |
