No, Anna was the original to whose style all subsequent parodists have aspired. She remained active and alert in her retirement, and indeed, right until she passed away. She clearly loved what she did, and there will never be another like her.

This is fantastic, thanks.

She is so funny....a combination of Hyacinth Bucket and Miss Slocomb from ´are you being served´. Thanx to Anna I now know the story of the Ring and don´t have to watch the dvd for 20 hours!!!

The "wrong curse tune" was actually from a popular song at the time called, I believe, "Chloe". She was even funnier in person, her facial expressions that went along with the words were enough to keep you in stiches.

It'so wonderful - of course her German is... err.. strange, but her view on the plot of Wagner's ring is accurate and full of admiring criticism. You couldn't re-tell that story better. And you even get curious to see the ring on stage! (Although you need LOTS of time and to read the libretto before.)

You should really see the entire Ring Cycle. It makes Anna Russell seem all the more fantastic and hilarious.

No real Wagner fan can resist this send up.

"Be careful Wotan. Be careful!"This was my intro to Ms. Russell in the mid 60's (courtesy of a friend) and I've never forgotten her hilarious reading of Pt. 1. Now I'm off to discover more. Thanks for bringing back a happy memory.
