Recently I had to make some pretty simple technical drawings and qcad was a wonderful tool (my statements from 9 months ago are not so up to date) - after some learning. At first I found its interface a little confusing, but now it seems pretty obvious. As you stated - for 2d it works really good. About DWG's: my roommate saved his autocad drawing (a bridge - "a little" complex) in DWG and qcad opened it without any problems or inconsistences.

Actually my dad discovered qcad (because he was pissed off by windows and saw me bragging with my linux boxes) and he thought it was pretty good. He uses autocad at work (it's pretty much an industry standard) and made everyone use dxf instead of dwg (even their partners, which didn't necessarily use autocad but were required to ship DWGs -- probably through some sort of converter, considering the files looked really shit when opened in autocad). Overall qcad is very good for 2d work methinks.

Oh and by the way, Windows doesn't suck, its just complete rubbish, and expensive bug ridden, unreliable, closed rubbish at that.Would you buy a car with the hood welded shut?So why would you buy software that you didn't have the source code for...

HaHa. I had a computer before windows existed. An just so you suckers know, unix predates Apple and Microsoft.There. In your face.

Whoever said Bill Gates made the first computer is a Dumb ass He was just the first in the race to make a computer compatible with all most all softwares Leopard/Snow leopard made from Unix systems now XD im loving my new linux

Um guys, I hate to interject, but IBM made the first resource computers and were "outsourced" to Bill Gates and Steve Jobs accordingly. If your talking about consumer computers, than it would be a collaborative effort. The resources needed were supplied by Steve Jobs and the hardware and software were supplied Bill Gates and IBM. No one person created the first home computer.
