Dude don't you realize in an anarchist society there would be nothing to stop there from being a 24 hour dance party in the streets?

I'm not really sure about defining which collectivist system Mises was talking about. The basic ideas point out a core flaw in all central planning. I'm not an expert but I think he got a lot of his initial clues as to the flaws of central planning by observing the "mixed economy" of Austria and Germany.

Nice to see this. I feel much the same way. Mises really helps clear out the mental smog.It took a while to get into it, but now I find the lectures in the media section more thought provoking and yes, even entertaining than anything on the idiot TV.

abolition of property rights results in mass poverty and chaos, unless an IRON HAND state socialist government imposes order. so you can have either totalitarianism or capitalism in the long run. And totalitarian governments always go bankrupt when they exploit all the resources and previously accumulated capital.

I agree btw that the lectures offer a superior education to what one may gain even at college; I am doing a course on economics at a good university, and even so I find it lacking, to say the least.

The sad part is that most neoclassical ideas have been rendered obsolete on many fronts.

Actually Mises provided critiques of other systems too...

Agreed, there are many other schools of economic thought that are worth understanding. But still all we get shoved down our throats is neoclassical economics.

Very good video. While I am not really a follower of the Austrian school, I appreciate their heterodox approach. I especially like the fact that Mises and Hayek were both not natural rightists; they were rule utilitarians. This allows more people to appreciate their arguments without some pre existing ethical view.

Thank you! I agree, the critique is of state socialism. |
