Rolling Stone ranked this version #157 on their list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. This version was also part of the soundtrack for the 1973 film American Graffiti.The song became a Billboard Hot 100 hit again in 1966 when it was released as a single by The Lettermen from their album A New Song for Young Love.

What a pity that young music lovers today are very likely not aware of this beautiful song. Call your local DJ and ask him to play it. Who knows--maybe the Flamingos will fly up the pop charts once again.
